Solare Ristorante Insalata de Mare in uno Spiedino Octopus and Shrimp Skewer

A stellar group of top San Diego chefs came together to create and prepare dishes inspired by their literary revelations in support of the San Diego Council on Literacy. The event, Eat Drink Read, was held at Brian Malarkey’s posh Green Acre Campus Pointe venue this past Wednesday. Everything about the evening was magical from the phenomenal food to the whimsical children’s book displays to Green Acre’s stunning vistas.

Amaya Chef Shaun Gethin’s refreshing chilled melon gazpacho and Ironside Chef Jason McLeod’s Brillat Savarin cheese with Suzies Farm strawberry preserves were savory starters. I also enjoyed Green Acre Chef Stafford Meyer’s playful Peter Rabbit inspired snap peas with yogurt & carrot puree dish, Underbelly Chef Michael Mora’s Five Against the Sea inspired spicy tuna-salmon sushi, The Patio Chef John Medall’s Salem’s Lot inspired Bloody Mary, Solare Chef Accursio Lota’s brilliantly presented insalata de mare and Oceana Chef Steven Riemer’s succulent lamb ravioli. Cusp Chef Donald Lockhart’s  Alice in Wonderland display was a whimsical delight. And Extraordinary Dessert Chef Karen Krasne’s Balboa Centennial Cake paired with Cafe Moto espresso was a perfect finish to a fabulous evening.
