Ink & Spindle is a cutting edge Australian textile company specializing in modern eco friendly fabrics. Located in the sleepy, charming suburb of Kensington just North of Melbourne, Ink & Spindle’s warehouse window sports an expansive view of the city. They share a studio space with acclaimed ceramic artist, Abby Seymour.

Inspired by Australia’s abundant diverse flora and fauna, designers Lara Cameron and Caitlin Klooger start with freehand drawings before transferring their sketches to the computer to prep for film output. Final films are then used to burn massive screens that are subsequently stretched over custom frames. Base stock Aqua Permaset environmentally friendly water-based inks are combined using a family heirloom baking-mixer into a custom set of house colors. Printing is done in tandem on a long sticky table in increments determined by the length of the design repeats. Metal stops are used to measure accuracy during the printing process. Caitlin and Lara carefully select sustainable fabrics for their line including organic cotton, hemp and pure linen.

Ink & Spindle celebrates their American debut next month with the launch of their first Cloud Nine Textile collection of twelve quilting fabrics. Visit Cloud9 Fabrics to learn more. And follow Ink & Spindle as they expand their small but gorgeous readymade collection of throw pillows, lampshades, table linens and more.tion of throw pillows, lampshades, table linens and more.

About Jolee Pink

I am a California-based writer, designer, artist, super foodie and avid traveler. I view travel as a superlative learning experience and have visited nearly 50 countries. As the author of Living Coastal: Inspirations for Entertaining, Decorating and Cooking California Style, I brought together artists and chefs to capture the spirit of San Diego influenced by the Pacific Ocean. The Wabisabi Green lifestyle blog focuses on art, design, food and travel. My colorful ceramic sculpture has received national recognition and is on permanent display at Rady Children’s Hospital. I also design and market a boutique eco-friendly textile line featuring bold modern motifs based on nature, world travels and the southern California coastal lifestyle.
